KINBURN - THE BAHAMAS AND HAWAII OF NIKOLAEV LAND

There are more than 90 National Parks in Nikolaev Region. The beautiful place for the relaxation and traveling is the Spit of Kinburn. If you look at the map you may see it looks like a leg.

The spit is the peninsula stretched for 40 km into the Black sea. The width of the spit is from 8 to 10 km. The peninsula ( in the ancient times it used to be an island) was known to Phoenician merchants and pirates. The neighbors of Kinburn - Olvia whose residents were familiar with this wonderful piece of the Northern Prichernomorie.

The archaeologists found the ancient settlement of Vikings who came to this blessed land from the far cold northern lands.

This miracle place is visited by 70 kind of the winds. Unusual sands, tiny and tender as the specks of dust and fluid like water. From the ancient times this sand is used in the construction, glass production etc. Eco-friendly reeds from the peninsula are used to cover the houses. This is the place where the hundreds of animals and plants species are preserved as the primordial ones. The Volyzhen forest is a real miracle! There are more than 40 species of ancient bushes, alder-tree groves, oaks which age exceeds 200 years old. An amazing nature world strikes even the poorest imagination - 11 species of rarest plants are unique and pure. Among them there are more than 30 rare herbs. It is here, on Kinburn, the only one in Europe wild orchids plantation is preserved. About several millions of the birds from all over the planet fly through the peninsula. About 500 000 of them spend winter here waiting for spring to come. Pheasants, gray cranes, pelicans, white snow swans are frequent quests and residents of this land.

Those who like exotics can meet about 9 species of reptiles. One of them is poisonous - steppe viper. There are about 600 species of insects found here by the scientists, 40 species of fish in abundance. Many species of the animals and insects, the residents of narrow Kinburn spit, are registered at the Red Book of Ukraine and Europe.

From the ancient times this blessed land was inhabited. Gileya was situated here and the historian of our era Gerodot feasted on it in V century BC. Sometimes the sea washed out the ceramic, metal and bronze subjects of the past times.

The sands keep the memories about the battles that took place here, for example of the last two world wars. Somewhere one can find the fragments and cartridge-cases.

Those who likes hunting can come here one-two times per year ( when the hunting is allowed) The best time to come to these places is May and June, then you have an opportunity to stay one in one with the nature of the sea shore. The beautiful sky, clear beaches scattered with the thousand of unusual shells and the music of the sea conquer any person who comes to this wonder world of Kinburn.
