NECROPOLIS OF NIKOLAEV

Church of All Saints The first mention about the city's cemetery dated from the end of XVIII century. On the early map of 1795 year the old city cemetery is indicated. It was situated on the eastern edge of the military settlement. Even today it is possible to find the graves with the Cossacks crosses.

On this very place the most ancient temple of Nikolaev is situated. It is the Church of All Saints established in 1807, sanctified in 1808. During the whole city's history the church has never been closed for a day. As the witnesses say, people used to bring the rare icons from all the city's churches when the city went through the historical misfortunes. Among them there are 3 healing icons. The iconostasis dated from 1808 and ancient icons have been preserved.

There are a lot of graves of the famous people and their relatives that had belonged to the ancient clans: such as the parents of admiral Makarov, the relatives of the famous warrior Michael Kutuzov; the father and the brother of the grate encyclopedist Vladimir Dal; the brother of the well known painter Nikolay Ge; the French family Pariseau-de-la-Vallette; of admiral and military Governor of Nikolaev and Sevastopol Michel Mangari, of Greek origin, etc.

Nikolaev Necropolis is known for it's original art and architectural monuments.
